Bahama oolite sand9/10/2023 That’s just my non-expert opinion….your mileage may vary Testing will help you decide on what your next water changes are like. A few days later I would do a fairly large water change. If you need extra water to siphon out the debris, mix up some water to do that with. I might use as much of the old (clean) water to add back to the tank with my livestock as I could. high flow tank.special grade….normal flow.Fiji Pink To me it seems the choices between these two are…. If I had to choose again for MY nano, I think I would stick with what I have (fig pink). ![]() It resists trapping waste particles better and is brighter white. I am using the Fiji Pink now and it looks very nice in a nano tank but is more easily blown around. The Special Grade is alittle course and may lead to trapping some stuff like your crushed coral, it did however stay in place and looked good too me. I have used both Arag-Alive Special Grade and Arag-Alive Fiji Pink. Should I simply leave some of the "old" water out while pouring it back into the tank, or should I pour it all back in, then syphon some out in order to syphon out some of the debris? Does all this sound like a a pretty decent method of replacing the substrate? I would use another fish tank during this transition, but I'm limited to the only tank I have, the Eclipse 12. I was thinking about doing a large water change during the transition but wasn't sure at what point to do the WC. After replacing the crushed coral with the aragonite, I would place everything back into the tank. If it should be fine, I'll probably be going with the Arag-Alive Bahama Oolite Sand.Īlso, I planned on taking all my livestock, live rock, and water out and putting them into a bucket while I scooped out all the crushed coral. Many people seem to prefer the oolitic aragonite over the larger grain sizes, so I'm considering that, but I just don't want it so small that it will be blowing all over my tank. Here are my current choices:Īragamax Sugar-Sized Reef Sand (0.2 - 1.2mm)Īragamax Oolitic Select Reef Sand (0.5 - 1.02mm)ĭoes anybody prefer one over the others? Would the Arag-Alive make the transition easier on my livestock compared to the "regular" aragonite? I had a chance to look at the Arag-Alive Special Grade, and the grains seemed a little bit too large for my taste, but other than that, it looks good. I have narrowed it down to a few CaribSea types of sand and would like some advice on which to go for. I currently have crushed coral as my substrate and was looking into swapping that out for some aragonite sand.
