Pro tools vs logic studio9/11/2023 If was a DJ producer fella I would use Fruity Loops. If I had to use Windows I would use Sonar or Cubase, in that order. If I was a DJ guy secure in my musical direction I would use Reason, or Maschine. If I was a DJ producer kinda guy I would use Live. If I couldn't use Logic I would use Cubase. It is a superb middle ground between 'traditional' audio/MIDI recording and loop-based production. On a Mac, Logic is the best value for money, general purpose, versatile DAW available, end of story. Reason, Live and Fruity Loops are heavyweights in loop-based DJ kinda production. Ditto for Performer, Reaper, Cubase, Studio One and Sonar. It surpasses Pro Tools in many ways and lags behind in others. Its bundled loops and soft synths are so usable it isn't even funny. You would spend a lifetime becoming a power user in any one of them.īut know this. Try them all if you can.īear in mind that all these DAWs are so deep that the only way to truly learn them is to use them in anger on many bona-fide recording and mixing sessions, or production sessions. That's like saying Doepfer is *the standard* modular. I may just go ahead and possibly obtain both PT and Logic 9.ĭude, there is no *standard*, despite what your professors say. There is the standard, and it does some things well, but other programs also have the things they do well, and not everyone you meet and work with are gonna use the same thing. The professors actually have expressed this type of logic that some of you have expressed. With an open mind and a desire to learn, life offers endless opportunity. these days I do nearly everything within the Live Suite and feel that Reason has grown into a very workable platform, depending on your needs. I've never been fond of Pro Tools and in the past I ran a MOTU-based studio. they are all essentially the same dish with different flavors. Ultimately whether it is Pro Tools, Logic, Digital Perform, Cubase, Sonar, etc. so if you have the funds, I'd say also pick up Logic and look into MAX. While you're a student you can get some decent discounts and the more you know the better off that you will be (in all things). Stating the obvious- this entire "industry standard" thing is such self perpetuating bullshit. since you're in school and have the opportunity to really learn PT, do so, whether or not you ever personally plan on running it. That aside, I agree with most of what has been expressed. I believe Logic is more composition program Leeski wrote:I thought Pro Tools was more recording tool I don't really want to mess with multiple software programs like producing in logic then mixing logic tracks in pro tools for example. So I'm just hoping it is a good medium for producing electronic music. Or is Logic superior ultimately in your opinions? So is Pro Tools a good program in the end for producing electronic music with drum machines/rythms and everything? My main thing is I'd like to be able to make music on my computer. My question is, as far as music and audio production goes, I know Logic by default comes with more virtual instruments so that is an advantage, but is Pro Tools as good or maybe even superior for music and audio production once you start accumulating third party plug ins? I wanted to and still might want to buy a copy of Logic Pro 9 for my macbook.īut we are being required to buy a copy of Pro Tools (student discounted price). Pro Tools is apparently still the standard in the field. So I started school as a major in audio recording.
